Our Story
SALTS exists to serve landowners and the agricultural community in Southern Alberta.
Established in 1998, SALTS was founded by ranchers who wanted a powerful, voluntary tool to keep land in ranching and maintain the cherished open landscapes that define Alberta.
Starting out as a group of volunteers, SALTS has become the largest Alberta-based land trust and a force for grasslands and watershed conservation.
Partnering with SALTS ensures that our working ranch lands will continue to provide clean water, food, wildlife habitat, tourism, and outdoor recreation for generations to come.
SALTS conservation easements directly support healthy ranching communities, healthy ecosystems, and the rich cultural heritage of our western landscapes.
Safeguarding Alberta’s vital and irreplaceable natural assets - grasslands, wetlands, and rivers - is crucial for our clean water, food production, tourism, recreation, and ultimately the sustainability of Alberta’s economy.
